Thrifted Guilty Pleasures
Every now and then I have this weird urge.
Many of you probably experience it too.
This desire to go walking through aisles and mounds and stacks of stuff that other people don’t want–and it can only be satiated with a long and productive visit to a thrift store or antique shop!
I live in Springfield, so I have a few favorite places to visit. I love Ozark Treasures on South Campbell, Vendor’s Mart on North Glenstone, and Relics Antique Mall on West Battlefield.
I recently went to Relics to get another fix. Luckily, my husband also likes to peruse these shops, so he came along for some thrifting and antiquing fun.
We are not experts on antiques by any means, though I do love watching Antiques Roadshow. I have a running list of things I search for–a certain Pyrex print, fiber art of food, but I also love digging around and finding random things that I end up taking home and loving.
The items below are pieces we’ve found over the past couple years. I just love that embroidered jar of pickles! Also, I picked up that yellow leather American Escort bag for $5 during my most recent Relics visit–steal! I use the other bag to carry around my needle felting supplies, and I couldn’t resist the cat mug. The shovel is something my husband wanted. It’s actually a collapsible Girl Scout camping shovel.
Probably my most favorite thing from our antiquing/thrifting adventures is this bunny painting. It’s three feet wide, and it hangs in my dining room so I get to admire it all the time. Plus, I love bunnies–I mean, who doesn’t?
Do you have a favorite place to thrift or antique? Please share, and I’ll add it to my thrifting bucket list!
