Missouri Holiday Traditions

This week for my traditions post, I thought it would be fun to make a list of some of the holiday traditions or events that happen around Missouri.  I haven’t been to all of these, but I can vouch for the awesomeness of the lights at Silver Dollar City and on the Plaza in Kansas City (and the reindeer in Chillicothe!)  Have you been to any of these?

Branson – Silver Dollar City’s Christmas festival  (Seeing Christmas lights from the top of a roller coaster or barn swing is pretty great)

Branson – Adoration Parade

Chillicothe – walking through the lights at Jenkins Christmas Village and seeing a live reindeer

Hollister – Santa Train at the depot

Kansas City – going to the Plaza to see the lights

Kansas City – ice skating at Crown Center

Moberly – Living Windows with performances or living displays set up in all the store windows downtown, cookie decorating, free hot chocolate, horse and carriage rides, and an appearance by Santa

Saint Charles – Christmas Traditions Festival

Saint Louis – driving through the beautiful lights at Anheuser Busch’s campus

Saint Louis – driving through the lights at Tilles Park

Springfield – Festival of Lights events throughout December

I’m sure there are many more events that I haven’t listed here.  What fun or unique holiday events take place in your corner of Missouri?  Where is your favorite light display?

I *love* the Plaza lights and ice skating at Crown Center. We’ll be seeing the lights tonight, in fact!

We’re thinking about taking the kids ice skating the week after Christmas. I think they’d love it.

One of my best friends (Sheila!) has went to Branson just after Thanksgiving the past few years and she says the lights are lovely.

Yes – you should take the kids ice skating at Crown Center, they’re the perfect age for it and I bet it will be much less crowded after Christmas. The lights in Branson really are something. There is a 5K inside Silver Dollar City in early November called Run to the Lights that you should try to do sometime. It fills up quick but it’s an awesome race because you get to run through the park at night, plus you can get in early and ride rides ahead of time!

Totally used this list during our pre-Christmas trip to Branson – thanks so much, Sarah!

Yay! I’m glad it came in handy. Did you have fun?
